Guidelines

Submissions for Pallina Press are currently closed

These are the general submission guidelines for our Pallina Pamphlet Series. They are for the benefit of both the writer and the Editor. Neglecting to read and follow the guidelines does show and will result in submissions being discarded.

  1. Please use our submission form but do read our guidelines in full first and make sure your pamphlet is being submitted during an open submission window.

  2. Only send us a submission if you have a full pamphlet worth of poems ready to publish, by this we mean 25-40 A5 pages. We ask that a significant portion of your pamphlet is previously unpublished—approximately 75%.

  3. You are very welcome to submit to us even if you have no prior magazine or journal publications. We do not close our submissions to unpublished poets.

  4. It is, however, essential that you have worked at your poems. If you have not done things like edit, workshop, share, read aloud, agonise, think about line-breaks, stanzas, the aural qualities, talk with others about honing your poems, and so on, then you are probably not ready to send us a pamphlet for consideration. Do that foundational work first and return during another submission window.

  5. Send one Word file containing your full pamphlet manuscript formatted to A5.

  6. Use a presentable serif font in 11 point size. We like Caslon.

  7. Ensure your name is in the header and page numbers are in the footer.

  8. Use page breaks between poems.

  9. Write us a cover letter that includes a short biography, but know that the contents of this does not make a difference to your submission. Accolades can get you noticed, yes, but they don’t count for as much as an interesting statement of poetics accompanied by excellent poems.

  10. Simultaneous submissions are fine so long as you immediately withdraw your work from consideration elsewhere if it is accepted.

  11. We only take submissions from poets who are living and working in the UK and The Republic of Ireland.

  12. Please allow two months after the close of the submission window for your manuscript to be considered.

  13. Thank you for trusting us with your work. We wish you the best of luck.
