Submission Guidelines
Submissions are open
These are the submission guidelines for the upcoming Pallina Pamphlets, and they are for the benefit of both the writer and the Editor, Suna Afshan. The series will see the publication of single, slim folios of poems from poets living and working in the UK. They will be typeset and printed by the Editor.
The format of the submission should be as follows:
One Word document of no more than 25 A5 pages;
Mostly unpublished (roughly 75%);
Prefaced with a cover letter, which should include a short biography;
Followed by your poems set in a serif font.
Pallina’s poets will be paid 20% of all profits from their pamphlet sales. In order to help us do this, and because the press is entirely unfunded, there will be a link to donate on the submission form – there is, of course, no obligation to do this. Every penny you do send, however, will go back into publishing more poetry.
We’re interested in the mystery of poems, poems of any form or bent. The Editor is fond of the lyric, roiling assonance and tongue-twisters, surrealism, the lives of gardeners, anglers, stay-at-home parents, and cricketers. We also encourage and accept works of translation, too, provided the relevant permissions have been sought prior to submission – you should explain this in the cover letter.
While we somewhat discourage simultaneous submissions, the Editor understands that poets have ever had issues with this sort of fidelity. However, if you are making a simultaneous submission, please try to notify us as soon as possible if your work is accepted elsewhere. You can use this form to contact the Editor.
You are very welcome to submit a pamphlet even if you have no prior publication history. We do not close our submissions to unpublished poets, in fact those are the ones we’re most looking forward to reading.
It’s the nature of a series like this that the pamphlets rejected will far outweigh those accepted. Please forgive the Editor if you’re rejected on multiple occasions – we are all victims of our tastes. In the event of a declined submission, the Editor cannot enter into discussions regarding the work at length. If you require specific editorial feedback, Pallina offers a paid critique service.
Please allow one pamphlet to be considered before submitting another. However, if after eight weeks there has been no response from the Editor, do enquire using this form.
Good luck!
